Senator Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, warned the contractor in charge of the 24-kilometer Dass-Bununu road, which connects Tafawa Balewa and Dass Local Government Areasof the State, to either return to the site or risk having the contract revoked.
The governor issued the notice while inspecting a road project awarded by the administration of Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, the immediate past governor.
Governor Mohammed announced that the contractor had been given over N800 million but had received little or nothing in return, adding that only 25% of the contract had been completed so far.
The contractor was not on site at the time of the governor’s inspection.
Governor Mohammed claimed that the contractor in charge of the road project had no excuse not to expedite work on the project after being paid N800 million.
The governor revoked the contract his administration had awarded for the reconstruction of the palace of the district head of Katagum in the state’s Zaki Local Government Area on Saturday, according to the 774Ngr.
Governor Mohammed had claimed during the revocation of the contract that the reconstruction of the palace was the first of its kind awarded by his administration since taking office.
Despite the fact that the contract was awarded to his friend and a member of the state’s ruling PDP, he said he had to withdraw it due to issues concerning public funds.
He said, however, that he had to revoke the contract despite being awarded to his friend and a member of the ruling PDP in the state, as issues related to the public fund were involved.
