President Muhammadu Buhari asked the Senate on Thursday to confirm Justice Salisu Abdullahi as substantive Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
The appeal was contained in a statement released by Femi Adesina, Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, and made available to journalists.
The nominated Chief Judge had been serving in that position prior to his appointment, according to the statement.
According to Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari demanded that Section 256 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria be invoked (as amended).
President Buhari made the request in a letter dated April 1, 2021.
He urged the Senate to do the confirmation, “in the usual expeditious manner.”
