Emir of Lere, Abubakar Garba Mohammed has passed away

Kaduna – The people of Kaduna State are saddened by the loss of one of the state’s chief rulers.

The family of the prince confirms the death of the Emir of Lere, Abubakar Garba Muhammad – The late prince is a former military officer and former military governor His Majesty the King of Lere, Brigadier General Abubakar Garba Mohammed (retired) passed away at the age of 77.

He was also former president of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.

Born on April 15, 1944, the late emir attended Lere and Soba Primary Schools between 1951 and 1958 before proceeding to the Barewa College Zaria from 1959 to 1963.

Garba died on the morning of Saturday, April 10, in Kaduna after a short illness. The late Abubakar Garba was the governor of Sokoto State under the military government of Badamasi Babangida.

According to reports, the funeral will be held in Lere around 5pm. Meanwhile, some members of the royal family confirmed the death saying he died after a short illness.

“He is hero. He passed away this Saturday morning. Of course his death is a great loss to us and the whole family,” said Hassan Mohammed.

King Abubakar came to power in Lere after the death of Umaru Sani in 2011. He died leaving four children and several grandchildren.
