Two culprits arrested in Kano over killer drink distribution

Two culprits have been arrested related to the unfortunate incident that took place on April the 15th, 2021.

The suspects were directly implicated in the distribution of the ‘Dan Tsamiya’ the killer juice that made many hospitalized and few dead during the outbreak.

The Kano State Coordinator of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Dr. Muhammad Shaba disclose this to the press on Sunday the 18th of April 2021.

“We made arrest of some individuals implicated in the unfortunate incident which are directly connected to the distribution of the Dan Tsamiya,” he said

The Agency has identifies the dangerous chemical used in preparing the killer juice which is hydroxylamine sulphate known to be the killer chemical used in brewing the Dan Tsamiya locally made juice, which has so far claimed 10 lives, while majority of the 400 people who were hospitalized ranging from 5 to 20 years of Age have been treated and discharged.

According to a source, who preferred anonymity said some of the patients, whose condition was severe, received blood transfusion while other categories of patients were administered with drugs.

The NAFDAC Coordinate Dr. Muhammad Shaba, however promised the citizens of Kano that NAFDAC would continue with its routine surveillance on the supply chain and trade, meet with stakeholders and also enlightenment of chemicals marketers and importers on how to curtailed such incidents from reoccurring.
