Purported security threat at FGC Sokoto

Federal Government College Sokoto was abruptly closed on Tuesday, but not as a result of security threats from any Bandits’ group.

The Federal Ministry of Education hitherto deemed it fit to positively transfer some of the students from FGC Birnin Yauri to FGC Sokoto few months ago as a result of the aftermath from the sad incident where students were abducted, so that their educational pursuits wouldn’t be truncated.

However, one of the Students felt the need to go home after Exams and decided to write a letter and pasted it on strategic spots in the school premises, which he thought could make the school authority to close the school. He thus threw the entire school, the Staff and Students into panic, with some students extremely anxious to just vacate the dormitories and go home.

The situation is under control, the school Management has fished out the Student that wrote the letter, thereby causing security breach. His parents have been informed, security agencies have been informed and they swung into action to maintain law and order. In line with this, the Management of FGCS, after due consultation with the Fed. Ministry of Education, decided to close the school, though the students are done with their terminal/Sessional Exams and the school holiday slated to commence on Thursday September 16, 2021, two days behind schedule. It is therefore a good decision at a time like this.

The content of the letter and written by the student reads as follows: “Please if you know of anyone with a child or ward in FGC Sokoto, inform him/ her to come immediately to pick him/her. The school is closed now abruptly as a result of the security threat we received today from Bandits.”
