Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Dankombo Morris has officially assumed duty as the 44th AIG in charge of the Zone 4 Headquarters in Makurdi. The high-ranking officer takes over the zonal command with a mandate to oversee and coordinate police operations across Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau states.
AIG Morris, a native of Kaltungo Local Government Area in Gombe State, arrives at the zonal headquarters with a robust academic and professional profile. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s degree in International Relations. His academic background is complemented by over three decades of law enforcement experience, having joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Throughout his career, Morris has been recognized for his strategic stewardship in various commands. Notably, he served as the Commissioner of Police for the Adamawa State Command and has held significant operational roles in several states, including Taraba, Bauchi, Jigawa, Borno, and Imo. His recent promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General in March 2026 was hailed by the Gombe State Government as a testament to his professionalism and dedication to national security.
In a statement released by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ayo Martins, the new AIG emphasized the importance of community partnership in tackling the security challenges unique to the North-Central region. Morris urged the citizens of the three states under his supervision to remain law-abiding and to actively support the police with actionable intelligence.
“The AIG encourages the citizens of Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau states to uphold the law and continue to provide the Zone with timely and accurate information to facilitate prompt and decisive action against all forms of crime and criminality,” the statement read.
The resumption of AIG Morris comes at a time when Zone 4 faces persistent security concerns, including farmer-herder conflicts and highway banditry. His vast experience in both administrative and field operations is expected to provide a new impetus to the security architecture of the zone.
As he settles into his new role, the AIG is expected to engage with the Executive Governors and traditional rulers of the three states to harmonize regional security efforts. His appointment is seen as part of a broader strategic redeployment by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency across the various police zones in Nigeria.
