The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and one suspected kidnapper following separate successful operations across the state. The breakthroughs were confirmed on Tuesday in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, made available to journalists in the state capital.
According to the police report, the three suspected armed robbers were intercepted on Monday, April 6, 2026, by operatives attached to the Bodija Market Division. The arrests occurred at approximately 12:30 pm during a routine stop-and-search operation along the busy Awolowo Road in the Bodija area of Ibadan.
The suspects were traveling on a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH when they were flagged down by officers. The police identified the rider as 26-year-old Godwin Cletus, who was conveying two passengers: 17-year-old Adedokun Isah and 19-year-old Rafiu Usman. All three suspects are reportedly residents of the Gbaremu area of Ibadan. Upon a physical search of the individuals, a toy pistol—often used to intimidate victims during robberies—was recovered.
In a separate development, the command also confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, identified as Taye Adamu. His apprehension followed sustained follow-up operations by the Ikoyi-Ile Division acting on credible intelligence.
Adamu was tracked down and arrested at Iluju Village at approximately 4:50 pm on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect is a high-ranking member of a notorious criminal syndicate. His arrest follows the prior detention of other members of the same gang on April 4, marking a significant blow to the kidnapping network operating within that axis of the state.
“The suspect is strongly believed to be a member of the same criminal syndicate whose members were arrested on 4th April, 2026,” Ayanlade stated, noting that the command is intensifying efforts to round up any remaining associates.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police has commended the vigilance of the officers involved in both operations, reiterating the command’s commitment to proactive policing. The public has been urged to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely information on suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
The four suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations. Security has also been bolstered around the Bodija and Ikoyi-Ile corridors to deter further criminal activities as the state government continues its drive to ensure the safety of lives and property.
