In a successful counter-insurgency operation, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have apprehended two suspected collaborators linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram.
The arrests were carried out on Monday in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation was a joint effort between the 403 Amphibious Brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Details of the Arrest
According to reports shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspects were intercepted around 12:00 p.m. while allegedly performing a logistics role for the insurgent groups.
- The Mission: The suspects were reportedly attempting to transport a woman to a known terrorist hideout in the Dumba general area.
- Evidence Recovered: Upon their arrest, security forces recovered:
- Two mobile phones.
- Two power banks.
- Other “sundry materials” believed to be intended for insurgent use.
- Current Status: The two men are currently in military custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to uncover more details about their network and the specific cell they were serving.
Strategic Importance
Pulka and the wider Gwoza LGA have long been volatile zones due to their proximity to the Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, which serve as traditional strongholds for both Boko Haram and ISWAP.
The arrest of logistics collaborators is considered a major win for the military, as it disrupts the flow of supplies and personnel that sustain insurgent operations in the Lake Chad region. This follows a string of recent military successes in March, including the neutralization of 75 ISWAP fighters in Malam Fatori and the repelling of an attack on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau.
