The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) States Assembly Forum, Ambassador Dagogo Fubara, has accused the party’s leadership of deliberately obstructing the aspirations of several party members by denying them access to nomination forms for the upcoming National Convention.
Speaking during a live appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Fubara alleged that despite fulfilling all financial and administrative requirements, many aspirants have been unable to obtain the necessary documents to formalize their candidacy. He described the situation as a significant setback for internal democracy within the ruling party.
“After paying for the forms and fulfilling all the necessary requirements, we were denied the opportunity to get the aspirant nomination forms,” Fubara stated. He noted that while the party leadership accepted the prescribed fees and cleared the aspirants in accordance with convention regulations, the organizing department subsequently claimed that the forms were “exhausted.”
Fubara, who has been active in the party since 2012 and identifies with the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) extraction of the APC, expressed disappointment that such a “microscopic few” in the system could stifle the ambitions of younger members. He noted that many were encouraged to seek elective positions within the party following President Bola Tinubu’s calls for youth inclusion in governance.
The allegations come just days before the APC National Convention, scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, at Eagle Square in Abuja. The convention is expected to usher in a new National Working Committee (NWC) and set the tone for the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The 92-member National Convention Committee, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, has previously pledged to ensure a transparent and inclusive process. However, Fubara’s claims suggest that logistical or strategic bottlenecks in the distribution of forms are causing friction among various caucuses, particularly those from the South-South region.
Political analysts observe that such internal disputes over nomination forms are often precursors to broader disagreements regarding the zoning of party offices or the emergence of consensus candidates. The APC has recently emphasized a “Let’s Go Green” initiative and other grassroots mobilizations to demonstrate unity, but Fubara’s public outcry indicates that significant underlying tensions remain regarding the accessibility of the leadership ladder.
As of Tuesday night, the APC National Secretariat in Abuja has not issued an official response to Fubara’s specific allegations. With the convention less than 72 hours away, the party faces increasing pressure to address the concerns of disenfranchised aspirants to prevent potential legal challenges or further internal divisions.
