Governor Yusuf Relieves Investment Commissioner of Duties in Cabinet Reorganization

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the removal of Shehu Wada Sagagi from his role as the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce, and Industry, effective immediately.

The decision was formalized in a statement issued on Thursday, March 26, 2026, by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. According to the directive, Sagagi is required to hand over all official responsibilities and ministerial assets to the Director of Commerce without delay to ensure the continued operation of the ministry.

In the official communication, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the former commissioner’s contributions to the state’s development. The statement highlighted Sagagi’s efforts in the sectors of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), religious affairs, and the political advancement of the state during his tenure.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to the outgoing official for his period of service and extended his best wishes for his future endeavors. He also reassured the residents of Kano State that the administration remaines dedicated to the delivery of effective governance and the sustained improvement of public services across all sectors.

According to the state government, the removal is part of a broader, ongoing effort to restructure the executive system for enhanced administrative performance and long-term economic development. Sagagi, a seasoned entrepreneur and former Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (Kano branch), had been sworn in as commissioner in March 2025 following a previous stint as the Governor’s Chief of Staff.

The Ministry of Investment, Commerce, and Industry is central to the state’s economic strategy, particularly in its goal to position Kano as a leading regional hub for trade and industrialization. Under Sagagi’s leadership, the ministry had focused on improving the ease of doing business and attracting foreign direct investment to the state’s industrial layouts.

The government has not yet announced a substantive replacement for the vacant cabinet position. However, political analysts suggest that the restructuring reflects the Governor’s intent to realign his team as the administration enters a critical phase of project implementation and policy execution ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
